Object Name Cup, Coffee
Description This cup is decorated with a shield bearing the initials "JMH" and a crest of a tree being sawn through and the motto "THROUGH." This crest was borne by a branch of the Hamilton family of Scotland that descended from John Hamilton, Archbishop of St. Andrews and Lord High Treasurer of Scotland (1511-71). The service from which this cup comes may have been made for the John Hamilton who died in 1809.
