Tureen of oval bombe shape with angular foliate knop and molded scroll-and-shell handles; decorated in famille rose enamels and gold, tureen with pendant borders of entwiend floral chains and foliate garlands, cornucopia filled with flowers and surrounded by floral sprays, scallop-and-tassel band at the foot; stand decorated en suite.
A c. 1780 tureen of this shape decorated with a Meissen-style design of floral festoons and birds is documented in Howard and Ayers. An identical tureen to the one illustrated here is exhibited by Phillips.
Tureens of this form copy a Meissen example, although later versions lack the detailed molding found on those produced during the eighteenth century.
