This cup is from a service made for Robert James Farquharson (1765-1843) of the Honourable East India Company.
Robert may have used his middle name, James, and so he may be the James Farquharson listed as captain of the Alfred, which sailed to Canton in 1791, 1794, 1796, 1799 and 1801. Upon his retirement from the East India Company Farquharson lived at Little Stamford in Essex, England.
