|Object Name||Cup, Coffee|
This cup is from a service made for James Moffatt. He spent his career with the British East India Company; he was captain of the East Indiaman Latham in 1762, and is known to have made at least one voyage to China, in 1771. He served as a director of the East India Company from 1774 to 1782, and again from 1787 to 1790. Though his wife's first name is unknown, her maiden name was Tyler.
In addition to the dinner and tea service from which this cup comes, Moffatt also commissioned a large punch bowl with his arms in the 1770s.
