Saucer having a doubler-bellied body and wavy rim; painted in overglaze famille rose enamels and gold with a wide floral border in gold with cartouches at the inner rim; a g latticework border in gold at the edge of the well; and a coat of arms in the center of the well.
The arms are of Sir Andrew Hamilton of England, and were granted in 1783. Hamilton served in the British Navy, and was captain of the ship "Roebuck" during the American Revolution. He later served as Lt Governor of Nova Scotia and Comptroller of the Navy.
The pattern, with its rich gold decoration, is known as "palaceware."
