|Object Name||Cup, Coffee|
The cup was made for a Mr. Motteux and Ms. Babcock, though no union between members of these two families has been identified.
It is tempting to think that that the Mr. Motteux whose arms decorate this cup was Peter Anthony Motteux, a Huguenot "China Man," or merchant who specialized in selling Asian goods. His shop was conveniently located in Ledenhall Street in London, near the headquarters of the Honourable East India Company.
