This cup is from a service made for a member of Milligan family of London, and is decorated with their crest, the initial "M" and the family motto "Just in Time."
The service was probably made for Robert Milligan (1746-1809) who was the founder and deputy chairman of the West India Dock Company, one of the major docks in London in the eighteenth century. Robert married Jean Dunbar in 1781, and they had five sons and three daughters.
