This cup is from a service made for George Carnegie, the 6th Earl of Northesk (1716-1792). In 1748 he married Anne Melville (1730-1779). Like others in his family, George entered the Navy, eventually rising to become Admiral of the White (an admiral of a squadron of the British Navy).
This is one of three armorial services made for George and Anne Carnegie (see also cup number 2150).
