|Object Name||Cup, Coffee|
This cup is from a service made for Lewis Way and his third wife, Abigail Lockey.
This was Way's second armorial service; his first was made about 1734 and shows his arms impaled with those of his first wife, Sophia Page. His second wife, Philadelphia Newnham, did not get an armorial service, but one was ordered for Abigail shortly after their marriage in 1738.
Way was a director of the South Sea Company, the President of Guys Hospital in London, and a member of the Middle Temple. He and his wives lived at Old Court, in the exclusive London suburb of Richmond.
