This cup is decorated with the arms of the Hall family of Grantham in Lincolnshire and of Sussex, England. This service was reputedly made for Richard Hall of Hatton Gardens, London, who was a director of the East India Company.
The service also could have been made for John Hall or his son Robert, both of Gothenburg, Sweden.
