This cup is from a service made for a member of the Seys family of the Welsh Marches, the region along the border between England and Wales. The quartered arms are of two different branches of the Seys family; the Seys of Monmouth and the Seys of Glamorgan.
The service was probably made for James Seys of Penrose.
